Happy Valentines

I hope everyone had a fun Valentines day. Riley and I broke tradition this year and had dinner at PF Changs because the awesome couple I work for gave me a $50 gift card. Since we've been together we've gone to Gabor Bros in Layton but I figure living in a new city you need to start new traditions and PF Changs was delicious. So I would say it was a successful Valentines day.
I decided to digitally make my Valentines this year since I have all these cute valentine digital scrapbook stuff that I needed to use. The boy valentine you'll probably recognize because I copied it from pinterest. And the girl valentine I made from my cute owl/valentine digital scrapbook kit from Snowflake Beach Designs. It's so easy to make things digitally than by hand for me that I'll probably never make a valentine by hand again. So anyways happy Valentines Day friends and family!! I hope it was a special one!

Every year I do a Halloween party for my niece's and nephew's and it is a blast. Kids are hilarious and even more so in costumes. Add in dancing in those costumes and you are golden. We ate, danced, ate some more, watched Nightmare Before Christmas (a definite tradition at my house) and then danced some more.

We had a really fun night.

No we don't go to Michigan State I've just visited there a few
times this year ha ha. :)

I had a really fun birthday weekend and wanted to share some pics. I was definitely spoiled this year! We played all weekend. We went shopping, ate delicious dinners and of course danced to Just Dance Summer (thanks to Kaydee and Randee for getting it for me) with my nieces and nephews. My bday landed on a Sunday this year so we went on a hike and then my Mom made me a thanksgiving dinner (I requested it jokingly and she took me serious) it was delicious. It was one of the best birthdays I've ever had and that's saying something!

Moab 2011

We had a fun trip to Moab this past weekend where I got to play
around with my new camera app (hence all the pictures) and visit some
fun arches. We ventured out to some new arches this year,
Sand Dune Arch, Skyline Arch and Uranium Arch.

Here's some pictures of the kids having fun. I took
alot of pictures of this pirate boat play house they have
in the back of the Archway hotel becauseI want to build this
for my future children in my future backyard.I also took a picture of
Cade that I think seriously resembles the Gerber
baby except Cade is fatter.

Here are some jeepin photos. We went on a long trail on
Saturday that took all afternoon but we discovered some really fun
stuff at the end of it so I think we'll do this one again. All in all a really fun
trip that took Riley away from his homework for a weekend :)

We got in from Michigan Friday night. I had a fun time hanging out with Laurie, Sky and Kins and wanted to share pictures. I also posted pics from Cade's blessing yesterday. It's so nice having Laurie home for two weeks! We have alot of fun things planned so I'll post some more pictures in a week or two. I haven't gotten my new house organized yet but when I do I'll post some pictures. I'm in love with our new place and can't wait to share. <3

So I finally found a place to live! It's in the avenues in Salt Lake. Pretty close to Randee and Erik (my sister-in-law) so we're pretty excited. We move in at the end of the month. Also my sister Kelli had her baby this week. He's adorable! They named him Cade and he looks just like Taylee. I'll also be leaving to Michigan at the end of the month (Riley might be moving in to our new place by himself). I'm going out for Laurie's last treatment! I'm so excited for her to be done with her treatments. After that she will have a PET scan to determine if the cancer is gone and if it's not she'll have to do more. So pray that she doesn't :) But she's going to try and get out to Utah right after her PET scan for hopefully a few weeks. So we're really excited for that. So hopefully she'll be out here sometime in the middle of August. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try and post some pictures while I'm in Michigan and when I get moved in to my new place.

I quickly want to say thanks to everyone who came out to the carnival. It was a huge success and we really appreciate everyone for supporting Laurie. It was so fun to send videos, messages, and pictures (along with the money) out to Laurie and show her how much we love her. So thanks again for helping us out and even to the people that couldn't be there and showed their support in other ways, you are the best! I love having such good friends and neighbors. Now that being said I will give a little update. Riley and I are still deciding where we want to live. I'm still thinking I would like to be in Salt Lake but there is still a few things up in the air so we will see. Riley is officially done with Weber so that is exciting. He starts Pharmacy school in August so he has a nice little break where we can see more of each other for a while. I'm super anxious for warm weather to get here so we can start having some fun. Hope everyone is well :)

Riley and I have decided to go to the U! Yep we're staying and we're excited about it. So if people hear of any good apartments or anything let me know. We want to move to Salt Lake or somewhere in that vacinity. It's nice to finally know where we're going to be living for the next few years. And everyone seems to be excited that I'm not moving clear across the country (besides Jenny). Love you all!

Home Again

I got in from Michigan late last night. I miss them so much already. It doesn't feel right waking up and not getting Kinsley out of her crib. It makes me want to cry. Although I will most likely be going back to Michigan for a few weeks in May and July. When I left, Laurie was doing well, she usually starts to get her energy back a few days before going into another treatment and then it starts all over again. My sister Kelli is going there on Tuesday and will be there to take care of her through the next treatment. While I was there we did shave Laurie's head. Her hair is so thick you couldn't tell that she was losing it, but every time she combed her fingers through it she would come out with a fist full of hair. So she decided she was ready to shave it. It was an emotional experience but it's insane how pretty she still looks without hair. We've had some low points the last few weeks but mostly it's been good to be with her and feel like I'm making it a little easier for her during this hard time. And just so everyone knows, she loves her letters. Skyler gives her one every day and she has really been enjoying it. We made a scrapbook for her to put them in and it's just been really fun for her so thanks everyone for writing them. We really appreciate it!

Riley got in to the U. So now we have to decide between the U and UNC. Everybody automatically thinks we're going to the U but it's actually a really hard decision. But I will keep everyone updated. I'm still in Michigan and really enjoying my time with Laurie, Skyler, and Kinsley. Laurie goes in for a treatment today and I'm praying that it doesn't kill her to much. Love you all.

So to start off I need to give an update. Riley and I have not yet decided where we're going to school. He has an interview at U of U at the end of the month and if he gets in there it will be a hard decision between North Carolina and the U. If he doesn't we are definitely going to North Carolina because it's an awesome school and lots of friends have told us it's a great area to live in. We are moving out of our apartment at the end of the month and are staying with my parents until July and then we're off to school. I'm actually really excited to move back in with my parents...surprisingly. Mostly because I'm excited to have more video game playing time with Michelle and things like that. Also as most of you have heard my sister Laurie has been diagnosed with lymphoma and I will be flying back to Michigan to stay with her at the end of the month as well, so I have a busy few weeks ahead of me. This is mostly why I wanted to post to express my thanks for people who have been there for me through this hard time. Not only is Laurie my sister she is my best friend and this has been an insanely hard time for me. I have great friends and am so thankful for them. I went over to Brooke's house and she handed me a stack of magazines and told me she saved them for Laurie which doesn't seem like a big deal but I wanted to cry and I thought it was the coolest thing ever and Nichole and I have been having lunch every week just so I have someone to talk to. It has helped me so much to have them and since I'm such an insanely private person I wanted to just say how much I appreciate and love them. There's also been tons of other people who have gone out of their way for my family and we really appreciate it. It's so nice to know that there are people to turn to when times get tough. Pharmacy School

Well Riley got in to pharmacy school! He got in to University of North Carolina which is ranked 2nd in the nation for pharmacy, so I had to give him props for being so amazing. I'm insanely proud of him. He just went to the interview last weekend and they told him he was accepted yesterday so I keeping telling him that he must have been at the top of the list. So he has some more interviews to go to, and places to check out, so we're still not sure where we'll end up but it's just nice to know that he's already gotten in to a really good school. We'll know for sure where we're going by next spring so I'll keep everyone posted.

Oh and Chapel Hill, North Carolina is 4 hours from Norfolk, 12 to Lansing, 9 hours to New York, 5 hours to Washington DC, and 10 hours to Florida. These are all trips I'm hoping to make while I'm there (not that it's decided or anything I just like to be thorough with my research.)

So we went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and since I'm not a great writer here are some review snippets that I agree with.

Hope you guys enjoyed it also. The only bad part of the night was waiting in line around rude, selfish people for a few hours. Next Potter film we're renting out a theater so we don't have to deal with idiots again. I also thought it was a little to scary for the little ones, which is a shame since I know how much my niece wants to see it, but seriously Bathilda's stare made me pratically jump into my friends lap! But otherwise very enjoyable.

What phenomena still lies before you unspoiled?

I'm gearing up for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (I might even rent out a theater so if anyones interested let me know). I was just reading some articles about it in EW and here's a little blurp where their talking about a featurette, I have to say this is totally how I feel.

"...it runs through the first six films in the series in a way that made me think how amazing it would be if you never read the books or seen the movies and still have all that to look forward to. The idea was fresh in my mind after seeing a recent trailer for Deathly Hallows, turning to the friend I was with, and having her tell me she's only read the first two books. I imagine the combination of pity/envy is similar to what some people feel for me when I tell them I've never seen Arrested Development. (I know I'll love it. That could be why I'm saving it for when I really need it.) So, back to the headline: What pop culture phenomena still lies before you unspoiled, making your friends insanely jealous? Why haven't you pulled the trigger? And when do you plan to?"

So I am always obsessing about something and I will give you a few examples later in case anyone is interested in discovering something new for themselves. But what I really need is something new for myself. What is everyone obsessed with? I need something new to love! Otherwise I just keep thinking about the same things over and over again....yes I might be crazy.

Here are some phenomenas in my life (don't think less of me, I am aware that I should devote my life to things that are more productive....I teach children for heavens sake so lay off me.)

1. Harry Potter

2. Jane Austen and anything associated with her, for instance Lost in Austen, The Jane Austen Book Club.

3. Gilmore Girls- I've literally watched Gilmore Girls almost every single day for the last 4 years even though it ended in 2007. Once I watch all 7 seasons I just start them over (remember how I said don't think less of me) I also get on a GG chat room every once in a while to bond with my fellow GG freaks.

4. Arrested Development (just like the girl mentioned in the article, I'm jealous that she's never seen them) It's literally the best thing in television history....yes I went there. And I'm patiently waiting for the movie.

5. Veronica Mars- I have a thing for WB shows that ended in 2007

6. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia- Yes it has some bad things in this show so if you start watching it don't say I didn't warn you. But Charlie Day is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me and I would say this is the second best thing in television history...yes I just went there again.

So there is some things that you can pick up if you haven't already and guaranteed you'll be entertained and I will be jealous because you get to see them for the first time. If anyone has suggestions for me that would be much appreciated.

The Adventures of Babysitting

So It was Alyssa's birthday last week and we have done a lot of playing. See pictures below. Things are going really good around here. I'm having a lot of fun working at the elementary. Yesterday I had to sub and those days aren't the greatest. I was so exhausted from yelling that I skipped my night class to sleep. The class I work with is a really good class it's just the 2-3 boys that I constantly have to watch that is exhausting. School is also going well. I will be done at the end of April or first of May somewhere in there. Just in time to leave to Florida! We are going to Disney world and of course to Hogwarts (if it is open, we are crossing our fingers). We are also doing a day at Discovery Cove which is swimming with the dolphins and going to sea world. So I'm really excited and I wish it were closer because I seriously need a vacation. But all in all we are doing really good. Riley and I had a fun Valentines day, we went to the same restaurant we've been going to since we've been together and it's fun and delicious every time. Also this week Riley lost his wonderful Grandma Faye. She was a crazy, hilarious, sweet person who I felt so privledged to get to know. And she meant alot to Riley and she will be missed. Her and Grandma J were alot alike and life just isn't the same without them. I know I don't update very often but I'm going to try and be better. I'm also uploading some video's to youtube and I will post the link once there up. Love you all. Haylie

Haylie's Haunted House Party!!!

I have a halloween party for my niece's and nephew's every year and I don't know how I'm going to top this one. I made over my house to look like a haunted house (it was pretty amateur but fun) and then we had dinner and decorated some cupcakes. Then we made some glowstick spiders (which their holding up in one picture) and after that we watched some of Corpse Bride and then had a dance party to Michael Jackson's greatest hits. For the dance party portion my living room looked like a nightclub. I bought a black light, a strobe light, and a fog machine. They also had their glow sticks to play with so the kids were going nuts. It was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen. So much fun! I used one of my spooky effects for all my pictures just to add some halloween flair. I'm definitely digitally scrapbooking these pics. Best birthday/halloween party ever! The photo's at the bottom are pictures of the dance party without my flash on. I wanted to capture how fun it looked with the black light and the glowsticks but it didn't do it much justice.

Hoarders

So my schedule is pretty crazy now so I have to catch up on all my DVRed shows at odd times and today I watched Hoarders from last monday and good heavens! It's the worst show in the world and yet I can't stop watching it every week. It absolutely infuriates me.
This week the story was about a couple who's kids were taken away because of the mothers terrible hoarding problem. It was one of the worst cases they've showed on the program and I just wanted to smack this woman. Is she for real? You'd think when the cops come to your door and tell you that your children can no longer live with you that you would immediately start throwing your crap away, but it still took her fighting with a counselor over every single item to get her house cleaned up. At one point she insists on going through the trash in case their throwing something out she wants and she comes across a plastic cup from 7-11 and she actually can't decide if she wants to keep it or throw it away and I'm just watching this in total frustration thinking you are choosing trash over your own children, you insane person!
On top of that this show never has a happy ending and this couple finally got their home cleaned out and I thought for the first time they finally had a happy ending. It was looking like they were going to get their kids back and everything but then a caption comes up at the end that said the police were not convinced that this woman was over her hoarding habits (gee ya think?) so the kids couldn't come back home, the couple had filed for divorce and the woman had to take all 1700 boxes of her crap that was in her basement and move out of the house. Most depressing show ever! I should probably just stick to my comedies but you know I'll still watch it next week and still hope for a good ending.

Here are some pictures of me and my sisters a few months ago. We went to Good Things Utah (my sister kelli lives next door to Marty so she got us tickets) and we had a really fun day together. Laurie and syler left to Michigan this morning where he'll be attending medical school. I'm sad but I'm happy for them at the same time. It will be a good experience for them and I'll just have to plan a trip down there to see them soon. We took some pictures last night but I haven't uploaded them yet so I'll post them when I do. We also got family pictures done last week and we haven't got them back yet. I'm way excited to see them.
